The Image in English Language Teaching
Daniel Xerri and I are the editors of The Image in English Language Teaching which brings together a selection of papers written by experts in the use of images in language education such as Ben Goldstein, Antonia Clare, Paul Dummett, Anna Whitcher, Paul Driver and Sylvia Karasthati. All the chapters urge teachers to use images critically and creatively, and encourage students to resist the passivity they might feel towards images. Every contribution is meant to help both teachers and students to become more active viewers and more visually literate. The preface to the book is written by Gunther Kress MBE, Professor of Semiotics and Education in the Department of Culture, Communication and Media Within the Institute of Education of University College London. The book is available by open access thanks to the support of the ELT Council. You can download a copy by clicking on the following link The Image in English Language Teaching (2017).
