Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts
I was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) in 2017 in recognition of my prominent contribution to language education. The RSA is an enlightenment organisation which is committed to finding innovative practical solutions to today’s social challenges. Through its ideas, research and 28,000-strong Fellowship, it seeks to understand and enhance human capability so we can close the gap between today’s reality and people’s hopes for a better world.
Being elected a Fellow of the RSA is without doubt an honour for both myself and my university. It is even more of an honour to join a highly respected society whose past members and present members include Charles Dickens, Adam Smith, Benjamin Franklin, Karl Marx, Stephen Hawking and Tim Berners-Lee. I am also very happy to be joining illustrious linguists such as Professor Mike McCarthy and Professor Terry Lamb who are also Fellows.
